BRIDGWATER YFC YEARBOOK REPORT 2007 ~ Chris Lockyer
Well what another action-packed and successful year it has been!
Starting with our AGM where I yet again was voted in as Chairman, I really don't know what I was thinking!
Harvest supper was our first event of the year. This didn't get off to the best start when we were setting-up and found that we had forgotten to buy coleslaw! So we all mucked in and made it ourselves with the aid of our president's unique way of mixing; let's just say it's very hands on! But luckily the rest of the evening went off without a hitch. Thanks to our disco for entertaining everyone by getting all the members to have a limbo competition which was very funny. But then he had a bright idea of getting the Chairman on stage to show everyone how to dance to the YMCA! Well what the hell I showed them! The evening raised a healthy £510 for club funds.
Next stop and 10 of us went to the County Ball. Well eventually; we got there after an unbooked tour around Weston thanks to the limos sat nav! Really good evening but unfortunately one had to go home early due to a slight stomach problem! Ah!
But the fun didn't stop there! Oh no! The club, in it's wisdom, had booked our 24-hour sponsored bounceathon to start the next day! (I must have missed that meeting!). So up we got the next morning, not really looking forward to the day to find it raining HARD! This was a big problem because we were having this outside of our meeting place; The Enmore Inn. But thankfully County Office is big enough to hold a bouncy castle. Now you may think that 24 hours on a bouncy castle would be easy and fun but trust me it's hard! All went well to start, with the members working in shifts and all having lots of energy. Even our President Simon Tyler had a bounce!
But as night came in it was getting really hard to keep everyone going but they all pulled through. There was the odd moment when there were 2 people bouncing in sleeping bags! With a visit from our County Chairman, James Sage, club leaders and advisory it gave everyone the energy to complete the day. We raised a total of £700 for Cancer Research. Thanks go to HOPPIN MAD for donating the hire of the castle.
Our annual bonfire and fireworks party was held at Barrows Farm, thanks to them.
Carol singing was next, with the usual bad singing for 3 nights but thanks to all who put up with us and paid for the pleasure! We raised £400.
After Christmas came the disco dancing competition held by our group. Now this was set to be a real good night due to our club entering a boys and girls team. There was lots of practising beforehand but each team didn't know what the other was doing! With me being in the boys team we had our practises at my house. This was not the most practical but thankfully the coffee table survived!
So the night came and we all dressed up with Matt and Phil giving us a lot of worry about when they were like naturals dressed as women! The girls were up first and put on a good show. Last was us lads! We thought our song was a sensible choice with the "Cha Cha Slide" because it told us what to do! And hell yeah we may not have won but we beat our girls team!
Our next road trip was off to the Snow Ball! We all started at my place with a few pre-journey drinks to calm the nerves! Although Vicki may have taken this a little too far, as far as her knees that is! As we went to leave they somehow stopped working! So with a little help onto the minibus we all got! As always we were carrying the standard issue bucket! This was to become of use on the way there which is not quite the usual thing but Vicki's dress would not hold anymore! Thankfully our minibus pilot for the night was my mum and she was there to look after Vicki until her early taxi home arrived! Thanks mum!
But anyway the rest of the night was great fun and we all partied hard. The way home was just as eventful. As it seemed we were on a minibus treasure hunt! By the time we got back to Bridgwater we had collected 2 standard issue traffic cones, 1 traffic cone flashing light and not forgetting one shopping trolley! And what do you use large shopping trolleys for?! Well buying large kebabs of course - as shown by Will!
Off to Taunton for the county bowling Claire, Hannah, Kris and I went and we let the pins have it and knocked down 465 to win!
We then held a skittles match against Langport when they eventually all turned-up! But well done to them for beating us.
Off to Frome went Sophie and Hannah to represent the group in Junior member of the Year. Well done to Hannah for winning!
Then came our annual Dinner and Dance. This was a much supported night with over 140 tickets sold and 3 of them going to Honiton YFC. I arrived to find that there seemed to be some kind of shrine to me set-up in the corner. Thanks go to Gayle and Liz (best club leaders ever!) for this.
There were some very embarassing photos and items there which I didn't even know where they came from! The night was a really good night and raised over £1000. Thanks to everyone that came.
So to Weymouth we went with a lot of activities weekend virgins with us! Oh did they have some learning to do!! Sometime within the blur of the weekend Vicki, Lisa, Kris and I went to the bowling and we somehow won again! I'm just impressed we turned-up because I can't really remember! Hannah made the trip down for Junior member of the Year which she won! So big well done to all!
With all this out of the way it was time to turn our efforts towards the rally. After the success of the last few years it was decided by the club that we were going to pull out all the stops and try our hardest! There was a lot to do. From people practising their radio show to others getting pulled around by calves!
The whole club pulled together and worked their hardest to get everything done and there on the day. Well some of us went up the night before for the stockjudging and to start to get the handicrafts in. Now this was going to be a real mission to sort-out because there were a lot of entries to place, but with help from Gayle and her friend Nikki they helped us get it right.
The morning of the Rally came and so did more handicrafts. But Will and Kate took charge and they were dealt with. It was going to be a very busy day because we had entered everything that we could. So with Gayle acting as mother we were all being told what we had to do and when we had to do it. With all the members running around and getting their parts done then reporting back to mother it was like a well-organised school trip.
So when it came to 1.30pm everything from the lawn-mower racing to clay pigeon shooting was done and it was only left to round up the whole club for the "How Many in a...?". Again, all together we went in, biggest at the bottom and smallest at the top. This seemed like fun to begin with but after 20 people had got in it was really beginning to hurt but they still kept coming! At least we managed to get 26 in which turned out to be the winning number so the bruises we all had were worth it!
Now that we had done all that we could relax and set-up camp. This was ok for most of the club but somehow I ended up having an early bath in a very cold drinker!
The evening do was soon upon us and what a good night it was! And so came the results - and YES WE DID IT! We won the Under 30 Members Cup for the fourth year in a row and then became the first club ever to win the RJ Keen Cup 3 years on the trot! What a night we had so I have been told because it all gets very cloudy after the results! But I know it was a really good night and we all celebrated a lot! Maybe Liz House and I partied a bit too hard but it was all good fun! Although I did feel sorry for John House having to stop 4 times on the way home due to Liz having a poorly tummy! Personally I was just impressed that I woke up in my tent! Thanks Will!
But I must thank the whole club for working so hard for it and you all made me very proud!
After the Rally it was time to relax after all the hard work. So the club just ticked over with meetings and outings.
Our next fundraising event was to be a sponsored fancy dress bike ride. This took place from Bawdrip out across the moors then back to the start for a BBQ at Lisa's house. It was to be a 15 mile ride up and downhill. We all turned up on time with many funny outfits! Thanks to Keith Addison for warning the mad drivers in front of us that we were coming. Plus Gayle and Penny for pushing the dying ones on from behind!
The whole event went off ok, there were really only 2 accidents! I did cause the 1st which sent Kate into the stingers! And the 2nd was due to too much speed and lack of brakes but luckily Sully and Holly only had small grazes! We did make sure that we had some liquid refreshments and started to show half-way when Sully's bladder could not take anymore! The day raised £650 and was really good fun!
The last major event of the year for us was our annual paintballing day! This was a really good day out but was very expensive for myself! Well it's the one time of the year that I get my own back on the rest of the club so can you blame me?!
As usual after this we went back to the Dyer's for a BBQ. This was a chance for the members to meet some of the advisory. Thanks to all of them that turned up. But I don't think that they'll come back next year!
This is due to the usual water fight that we have but the advisory didn't know about! Now this was no normal water fight! Luckily the Dyer's water is from a bore hole because there were about 30 of us fighting for nearly 4 hours! Weapons ranged from a calf-feed bucket to a dustbin and refillable fire extinguisher! I had never imagined that our advisory would have been so fit!! I think that Alan Dyer must have been the school champion for the 100 metres hurdles because I could not catch him when he cleared a 4ft wall in one stride! The female advisory has learnt that it's not a good idea to stand together and chat, what an easy target! But thanks to the Dyers for supplying all the drowned advisory with towels!
And that about rounds up the year! Just like to say thanks to the Enmore Inn for putting up with us for the year and for all their help. Thanks to Simon Tyler - what a legend!
Last but most definitely not least thanks go to Liz and Gayle for all their help and guidance this year and over the past 3 years that I have been Chairman and good luck Sophie!
BRIDGWATER YFC NEWSLETTER REPORT (August 06) ~ Chris Lockyer
This year has been another busy year for Bridgwater YFC with events ranging from 18th birthdays to the all-important rally.
In March we had the Dinner and Dance, which yet again was a huge success and raised just under £500, there were no major embarrassing moments however Liz did celebrate her 40th birthday, to which we celebrated in style!
In May came the biggest event of the year and the event that everybody looks forward to, the all-important Rally! The members put in a lot of hard work and they were rewarded with the cup for the most points per member for a club with under 30 members. But not only that, Bridgwater also won the overall Rally Cup for the 2nd year in a row!
Over the year we have taken part in many fun activities ranging from parties to water fights. The Pimps & Prossies Party stands out as being the most memorable, seeing our Chairman's legs in a short mini skirt ready to actually go out in public!!
We decided to have a car treasure hunt, which turned out to be a big mistake, the treasure hunt was supposed to end up at Liz's house in Chedzoy (near Bridgwater!) but where did Phil end up?! Highbridge first then near Street!! But he turned up at last complete with 25Kg of Horse S**t!!
All of the club socials we have been to have had their own little events take place for example, Hannah and Will's little bit of travel sickness or was it too much to drink?
Bridgwater also made a trip to Cornwall in which they won the Junior Kwik Cricket for Somerset. Last but the most recent was Janet's 18th. In which a bizarre course of events happened; Liz showed us a hidden talent of hers (who would ever have guessed it was pole-dancing in the street) She got some male attention and needless to say there were a few horns beeping! Janet managed the Bridgwater YFC tradition of downing Baileys and Bitter Lemon and she didn't even wake-up with a hangover!
Then on Sunday, Fred hired a hot tub for fun. A few strange photos were taken and lets just say not everybody was fully clothed come the end of the night. And somehow the boys shorts went missing?!
Overall this year has been a great one for Bridgwater, as there has been lots of fun and games and some very strange incidents! Which we hope will be followed by another great year to come!
BRIDGWATER YFC YEARBOOK REPORT 2006 ~Chris Lockyer & Lynsey Addison
This year has been yet another busy year for Bridgwater Young Farmers with events ranging from 18th birthdays to the all-important rally.
The year began with our first Harvest Supper for 5 years, which turned out to be a huge success, and has now led to another this year.
In November we had a very colourful fireworks party, and with this came a fair few drinks and a few small incidents.
December was a busy time for us with the annual Carol Singing (or noise), that is if it can be called singing, but never the less whether it was singing or not we raised a fantastic £650 which was donated to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution Fund.
After our last night out we all went back to the Houses for party games. This was a very entertaining evening. There was lots of shaving foam used for different things including semi permanent breast enlargements! Hannah decided that she would try John's cows on Smirnoff Ice, she said that it would improve their yields!
The last thing in December was our Christmas Party, which bowled over our club leaders with a slightly adventurous game of musical chairs, how is the bruise Gayle?
January came and the hangovers went after a very late or early finishing New Years Eve party at the Dyers. Many Thanks.
One night we had a self-defence evening which all had fun at including our club leader Liz!
Also in January we had some tractor judging lessons from Chris but not all of us agreed on his answers! But he did tell us that he was right!
At this there was a sudden unprompted practice for how many in a ….? Thanks to Compass Tractors.
In March we had the Dinner and Dance, which yet again was a huge success and raised just under £500, there were no major embarrassing moments however Liz did celebrate her 40th birthday, to which we celebrated in style.
In May came the biggest event of the year and the event that everybody looks forward to, the all-important Rally. This year hosted at Blackmore Farm. The members put in a lot of hard work both for the Rally itself and for the club. During this something very strange happened one night at the county offices! All we know is that Kate is due soon but we don't know who to call the vet or doctor any ideas please let me know ASAP!
And all their hard work paid off. We won the cup for the most points for a club of under 30 members. But not only that we also won the overall rally cup, for the second year in a row! What an achievement well done to all!
The most memorable event would have to be 'How many can you fit in a…….?' We did not have a clue it was going to be a Vauxhall Nova car needless to say it was a rather small car, however we still managed to fit 17 people in somehow?
The night was celebrated very well by all that can remember and even if we didn't we were all reminded in the morning by Will walking around with "WE ONE TIT" written on his fore head!
Over the year we have also taken part in many fun activities ranging from parties to water fights.
The Pimps and Prossies party stands out as being the most memorable, seeing our chairman's legs in a short mini skirt ready to actually go out in public.
We decided to have a car treasure hunt, which turned out to be a big mistake, the treasure hunt was supposed to end up at Liz's house (Chedzoy near Bridgwater!), where did Phill end up? Burnham? Street? Who knows?! But he did get there in the end with 25kg of Horse S**T.
All of the club socials we have been to have had their own little events take place for example, On our way home from the Bond & Bunnies Hannah and Will had a little bit of travel sickness or was it to much drink? How many buckets did you fill?
We all decided that we would go paint balling again this year after last years fun. This was a good day out which finished off with a BBQ and water fight back at the Dyers house where we all picked on Chris!
Now, to sport. Bridgwater has done well whether it was just for fun or county rounds of sports. Bridgwater started by having a friendly game of rounders against Taunton and Wellington in which we won by several rounders in all the matches played.
Bridgwater also made a trip to Cornwall, in which they won the junior cricket.
The most recent events to be played was the beach volleyball, although Bridgwater came 3rd but they still showed their team spirit and how to work together as a group(Or some just sat and cheered!).
One of the most recent events was Janet's 18th. In which a bizarre course of events happened, Liz showed us a hidden talent of hers, who would have ever guessed it was pole dancing in the street. She got some strong male attention and needless to say there were a few horns beeping.
Janet managed the Bridgwater Young Farmers tradition of downing Bailies and Bitter Lemon, and she didn't even wake up with a hang over.
Then on Sunday, Fred hired a hot tub for fun. A few strange photos were taken and lets just say not everybody was fully clothed come the end of the night.
But to bring us right up to date we all went to the after ploughing match disco in aid of the 2007 rally. This was a night out to celebrate Hannah's birthday. Her aim of the evening was to pull a tall dark handsome man! So doing his job as county chairman Geoff helped out!
Overall this year has been a great one for Bridgwater, as there has been lots of fun and games, some very strange incidents and most of all quite a lot of fun! Which we hope will be followed by another great year to come.
My thanks go out to Shelia Dyer and Liz House for all their help this year, and letting us invade their houses whenever needed! But Shelia did try to control us! Thanks to Gayle for her help too, and trying to keep us on the straight and narrow! I think that she has just given up now. I Have! We are very sad to be losing Shelia because she is retiring now. We would also like to wish her well!
Thanks to Lyndsey for helping write this and good luck at uni! Oh yes and before I finish just as Tom thought he got away with it, if you are still looking for your tea I think that Janet is still carrying it around!
