CREWKERNE YFC YEARBOOK REPORT ~ 2007

Crewkerne has had yet another busy year!

The AGM was well attended and made way for some of our new officers to take over.

Our first event this year was our 44th annual ploughing match. This year saw a record number of entries turning the field brown-side-up. With Andy winning most of the prizes from John C this year; John still managed to win the feed competition - must be the same bale of hay!!

Our second event was our "A&E" Disco at Seavington, from what I can remember I think everyone enjoyed themselves. The profit reflected it!

County Ball was well-attended and was surprisingly uneventful! No gossip that night!

The Christmas Meal was very nice at Clapton Mill on John C's birthday.

Boxing Day Boogie; Tom was reunited with an old flame (don't worry - he assured us nothing happened!), Hayley stole a girl's boyfriend and Dave danced with a random!

We yet again needed our passports as we ventured deep into foreign counties when we went to Devon and Dorset's discos and balls which were well attended.

This year surprisingly, the girls managed to sort out a netball team - they are so competitive! The boys scrambled a rugby match against Langport - enough said!

Ilminster's "Bonds & Bunnies" was another one of the disco's we went along to with Wessex Group's "Cartoon Character" Disco. Tris, Will, Mark, Jon & Charlie managed to paint the venue blue - damn Smurfs!! Good night though - the lads got a picture with some Langport girls. Calm down Jon...

South West Area and the only chance to let our hair down properly all year - very good weekend!

Gossip and Tom couldn't get enough out of the hotel room (could have done with some sound-proofing!), Sam Turner got the most points - good idea to cruise in his car! Chav!

The Advisory meal was well-attended, a filling meal was followed by a night in Crewkerne, can't remember much of that!

Rally and Tavy had a few jobs to attend to...ALICE! Dave pulled a car out of the stream with his truck and Wincanton took a detour to the camp site!

Our foam party took a lot of organising but it was well worth it! Thanks to those that helped with the clean-up! Tavy struck again, in more ways than one! Sam Broom didn't quite get-up in time for the milk round!!

Chard Show was next and thanks to those that helped out. After pulling most of the ladies lorries in on Sunday, all had to be pulled out again with thanks to Sam T, Sam B, Tom and myself. Raising £200 from the drivers and £300 from the show organisers for the help - we've been booked up for next year already!!

Stockjudging has been good with Jon and Tammy winning the Intermediate Dairy.

We've also attended Raft races at Yarcombe and the Lowland Games.

I had to mention Charlie for driving to most disco's - cheers!

And a huge thanks goes to Phil and Sarah for their help this year.

Also thanks to Tammy for the work she has done - I couldn't have done it without her help!

Good luck to the new officers for the follwing year!

CREWKERNE YFC REPORT ~ January 2006

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Well what can we say; the year has started well. We have increased our membership by nearly 50% including a range of ages so they will all come in useful somehow!!

So far this year we have attended many social events including County Ball, which was well-attended by 25 members, Bingo, Quiz (although we did win "Most Retarded Team"!), YFC Disco's and Sports and we've also had time to support our neighbouring counties; Devon and Dorset.

We have also begun playing our club skittles and hockey matches against Wincanton, Langport and Ilminster...but I don't know where Yeovil got to?

Last year we raised £1300 for Guides Dogs for the Blind through our Annual Ploughing match (with thanks to all the Advisory), 24-hour dung spread (just don't mention breakdowns!!) and the Club's 70th Anniversary Barn Dance, which was attended by approximately 300 past and present members.

This year our chosen charity is Taunton-based "Riding for the Disabled" so hopefully we can raise a similar amount of money if not more by the end of the YFC year.

We are holding a "School Disco" on Friday 3rd March at Seavington, near Ilminster so hopefully we will have some money in the pot fairly soon.

Our club programme this year has consisted of some weird and wonderful things including an undertaker's visit, Ringo's, ice-skating, a vet visit, Blind Drop, Firework's Hide 'n' seek, lazerage and our annual Christmas Meal. Hopefully the rest of the YFC Year will hold some great and exciting things as the last 4 months have!

Emma Duck, Crewkerne.

Crewkerne YFC Yearbook Report 2005

By Stewart Hyslop

Well a warm welcome to our new Chairman, Chappers! Like a lamb to the slaughter he was looking forward to it! Well John, you did it, you have led Crewkerne away from the light - what a brilliant year!

The first major role of the year was the Ploughing Match, which as always drew the crowds, good weather and plenty of competition. The site out near Norton was kindly loaned to us but we had the major job of filling in tram lines in which you could lose a small member!

Still an excellent day and over £800 was raised through the day, and well done to all the members who participated and won!

Short detail of activities (sorry - writing this late at night!)

Carnival Fire-work chasing!

Kelly & Emma's Birthday

Sponsored 24 hour Dung Spreading which raised over £1000 and made it into the papers!

Well the time is nearing for SWA, well who wasn't excited?! 15 of us left Ilminster round about for Newquay. The trip, as always, proved challenging for our cars, brakes mainly (hope they are working ok now Alex!). Arriving at the hotel we ended up situated up the hill from Langport, they still will regret that!

Well we all got settled in, got our rooms and started to venture out. The rest of the weekend was…well…enlightening, what with bar maids, inflatable parrots, nuns, railway tracks (no they are not electric!) cones, building site fencing, skinny dipping, late nights, bit of football on the beach, wondering sofa's (and not TV's), pole dancing, pirate's! The weekend was the best I had had in years, well Friday night…anyway! Tilly, I think you made an impression, and Alex, if you look at a young lady and say "You ride horses?" and she asks how do you know that, don't reply "because of your arse" - cruising for a bruising there mister!

Then we had the Rally and made a weekend of it! Chappers provided most of the entertainment serving his sole purpose of erecting tents, which was recognised by some young ladies (tent girls)! All the activities on the day were taken part in, well done to the girls in a lot of the crafts and to the Safety and Efficiency team - Jon, Dave, me, Chappers and Sam - couldn't of done it without ya! Nearly couldn't do it cos someone had let a tyre down on the tractor.

A few members did manage to leave the tents during the day, but the couples were left - you were just watching the stuff yeah! Well done to everyone, a few of our teams even qualified for the Royal Show.

Stockjudging

Raft Race at Lowland games

Local Barn Dances

70th Anniversary - well turned out night, don't think anyone realised how many were to turn up, a lot of friends were reunited and new friends made…didn't know old people drank WKD Blue - still, provided some entertainment!

Well done to Chappers and the team, best of luck to this year's new Committee, started off well with the donation of £1300 to the Guide Dogs for the Blind and with the start of the 41st ploughing match.

I hope this has given a small insight into Crewkerne YFC but if you see them about ask them what's on, believe me this is only half of what went on, just it's getting late, nearly run out of paper and Anna set a deadline of the 15th - sorry if I forgot some things but this year is gonna be a good one, see you about!…………………

Crewkerne YFC shine at the Royal Show

By Anna Francis

A big WELL DONE must go to Stewart Hyslop and John Wareham from Crewkerne YFC for not only wiping out the competition to win the ATV Handling at the Rally, but then again at South-West Area Competitions Day at the Royal Bath & West Show in June. The Cornish didn't stand a chance!

Not satisfied with this achievement they fought even harder at the Royal Show in July on behalf of the South-West Area to come a very credible fourth place.

They didn't have the easiest of days for it - the weather sadly wasn't on their side and they ended up resembling drowned rats I believe and enjoying a good slide around the course in front of the judges!

They ended up only 4 points behind the winners so it was a very close run thing and gave the boys a really good excuse for a day-off to mess about with other people's machinery!!

It takes a lot to make it to that level so well done lads - a fantastic effort and we can all look forward to the same next year - I hope!

DIDN'T THEY DO WELL!!!! (August 2005)

Somerset YFC quite literally shone (unlike the sun!) at the Royal Show (3-6 July 05) in Warwickshire when Stewart Hyslop and John Wareham (both Crewkerne YFC) and a YFC stress-cow named Trixie battled the rain and a difficult course to take a well-deserved fourth in the ATV Handling. They got very wet but I'm sure it did them good really!

The boys were only 4 points behind the winners so feel free to congratulate them! To qualify to go to the Show was a real achievement in itself but to come in with such fantastic results is brilliant! Well done - we're really chuffed with you all and thanks for doing such a good job of representing Somerset!

CHARITABLE LOT DOWN AT CREWKERNE! (October 2005)

WELL DONE to Crewkerne YFC who recently presented a cheque for £1350 to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. The club sponsored "Poppy" and were presented with a picture of Poppy to show the Association's thanks. The presentation was made by John Chapman to Den Gill and Emma Duck received the picture of Poppy. Also present were founder members George Thomas and Dickie Cox and a host of members and advisory members.

A very worthwhile cause to donate funds to so please congratulate them on their efforts when you next stumble across some of them!

CREWKERNE PLOUGHED UP QUITE A DAY OF IT! (November 2005)

Well done to John Chapman and his team of Crewkerne Young Farmers who organised a lovely day in the autumn sunshine at Dillington Park on Saturday 1st October for their Annual Ploughing Match. It was a lovely day and a pleasure to watch the Young Farmers hard at work making sure that the ploughing was done to a high standard.

The Junior members were tested at Skittles, and the raffle and "Find the Cow Dung" (?!) helped club funds along nicely! All in all a very well organised day out to raise the profile of Crewkerne YFC and to show what they can achieve.

CREWKERNE YFC MUST BE TIRED BUNNIES!! (August 2006)

Crewkerne YFC deserve a pat on the back for managing to stay awake for 24 hours for their Sponsored Dung Spread back in the Spring. They raised over £1500 for their chosen charity and are still receiving money. Fantastic effort guys - well done!! Here's a little snap of the tired tractor drivers - who wants to play "spot the most sleepy"?!
