Langport YFC Yearbook Report 2007 ~ Chris Butland & Jack Westworth
The first date in our calendar this year was our annual Harvest Supper held at Hambridge Village Hall, this year was a great success as we had no burnt chicken!! The Harvest Supper was a great success and thank you to everyone who donated prizes and the supper.
Next we had a good attendance to County Ball and with two mini-buses travelling up the motorway everyone who went enjoyed themselves.
In the same month we became county Football Champions with a great effort from all the team players.
Another great acheivement that started the year was having Naomi, Bryan and Phil being part of the Stockjudging team helping Wessex to win the competition.
We decided to enter Ilminster carnival with the theme "A Life in Langport YFC", with the generator packing-up before the start line it's a good job Chris had a radio in the 590 we could rock around to!!
We started our Christmas celebrations this year with a bingo held at The Langport Arms, this raised huge amounts of money and we later donated the money to our chosen charities.
Again the Christmas cart was a huge success and we raised a good amount of money. A huge thank-you to everyone who donated us money and to Jack for being Santa! The carol-singing also helped to raise money and the singing was spectacular !
Our Christmas meal was well-attended and everyone enjoyed the Christmas cheer that was shown by all who attended!
For the first time in a while we held a club disco to the theme of "The Wild West". This was a major night for us all and thank-you to everyone who came and supported us; we are very sorry for the bar running dry; you should all learn to drink less!!
With a record number of us travelling down to Weymouth we all enjoyed the South-West Area Weekend; we won't forget the male members dressing as animals, Tristan and Kev P, and the girl's antics on the beach - Naomi and Amoss!
The annual Dinner and Dance was well attended by members, advisory and parents. The dinner was good and the dancing was even better! Thank you to all who attended and helped make the night another one to remember.
We would like to congratulate Severn Group on their rally this year, the lawn-mower racing was legendary and we hope to see it at future rallies.
At the rally we managed to win a few events, which meant we also attended the SouthWest Competition day at Gillingham & Shaftesbury Showground a few weeks later. Here we won the Efficiency with Safety, with the team of Jack, Chris, Mike and Brendon and went onto represent the area at the Royal Show where Jack also competed in the Mini-Digger Driving (after going through by default!) and is now the champion of the country!! Well done to him!!
We kept up the tradition of entering raft races and with the team of Bryan, Phil, John, Jack, Chris and Mike we won the Yarcombe race overtaking all the rafts in front of us!
The Lowland Games were another success for us this year and we had a first, second and third in each event. The big nappies from Jonny helped us along the way!
That was about it for the year and we would like to thank all our members and advisory for making this such a great year, you all know who you are!!
Langport has had many sporting acheivements this year and to name a few there was 2nd in the county for hockey and basketball and 3rd in the rugby!
Thank you to all the clubs and county for all the great events we've attended this year and we can't wait to see you all out and about next year!
During the year we have donated £1200 to our three charities; Farm Crisis Network, First Responders and Cancer Research.
Finally we would like to wish Jonny all the best for his year as County Chairperson and we hope he has a great time doing it!
Langport YFC Yearbook Report 2005
by Ann Coombes
This year has being a huge success probably because we have had a influx of new members and such a good chairman! And not forgetting the amazing secretary!!!
We started the year with the annual harvest supper this was a success and we raised lots of money for our charity, thanks to Vicky's games!
Our Christmas Bingo was next this was very well supported. We dazzled Langport with our amazing carol singing for 2 nights thanks to the new hymn sheets we all sang the same words!!
Boxing Day Boogie was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone especially some of the younger members!! Becky: "Phil are you ok, are you ok Phil?!"
The snowball proved to be a really good night out but Jack not on the dance floor please!!
Congratulations to Phil, Brendon, Laura B and Phillipa for passing their driving tests, Phil we still think your examiner must have being drunk!!
Our next event in the calendar was the valentines disco, Alice Vincent certainly enjoyed herself!!
We then had our annual Dinner and Dance this year was out 70th anniversary this was a huge success even though Jack and Jonny had most of the helium!! We had new trophies presented this was very exciting!
Well done to Alice and Naomi for going to Weston Super Mare for member of the year.
Next was our trip to activities weekend which was defiantly enjoyed by all, we are still not sure if Billy enjoyed this back wax! Jack looked surprisingly good in his gorilla suit, Eddy and Billy you're never going to make very good Hula Girls!! This weekend was really good and we are looking forward to next years.
Next was the rally where thanks to Kate the most of the crafts did well. Everyone took part in something surely that's all that mattered!! Phil where were you when Ann and Brendon were looking for you?? We still don't know!
The Wet n Wild weekend proved to be very wild for some people (Jack!!) Our raft was very successful, still not sure about the inflatable leg!!
We then took our raft to the lowland games where we won King of the River and all the classes that we entered.
The charity abseiling at Yeovil Hospital was next, congratulations to Amy, Naomi, Brendon, Phil, Jonny, Alice and Paul who raised £1000 for Breast Cancer Research and they managed to do it!!
Well what can I say but mention the word PAINTBALLING! Many of our members, Naomi, Jonny, Kev, Jack, Paul, Tom and Brendon have all purchased paintball guns and enjoy hiding in woods and shooting each other, maybe other clubs could get some and we could have a competition!
Sports throughout the year have being very successful thanks to Kev, we did really well in hockey and enjoyed matches and practise. Gunner you were great but your not meant to smoke when your playing a match .
Our rugby team however were lacking two people come back Harry and Marshy! Still the boys enjoyed the games that they played.
Our rounders team were really good managing to beat Ilminster and Crewkerne!
We seem to have acquired a member of Yeovil YFC, would you like him back!! Only joking (we love you Jimney aka Paul!)
What a disappointment Ed Coombes getting arrested, he thought it would be funny to steal a road sign, not realising a police car was parked down the road! Unfortunately the getaway driver Billy was not fast enough!
A big congratulations to Naomi for passing her veterinary Nurse exam.
All that's left to say is thank you to everyone for such a good year it's been great fun, we hope next year will be just as good! Good luck to Steveo in Australia.
LANGPORT GET IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT! (January 2006)
WELL DONE to Langport YFC for dressing up and getting into the Christmas spirit for their Christmas float which went down a storm (must have been those costumes!) and in two nights raised a fantastic £300 for local charities and good causes.
They didn't stop there though - their bingo night which was held on 7th December (thanks to everyone who went along) raised £290 for the Wessex House Nursing Home. A very profitable couple of nights work - thank you very much to all involved!
I would call them stars but maybe angels would be more like it!!
LANGPORT YFC REPORT (February 2006)
Ann Coombes & Tristan Smith
Hello boys and girls, wishing you all a Happy New Year and hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
Since September we have all been really busy, starting with our Harvest Supper which was a huge success apart from the Chicken in White Wine Sauce, which was fine until the girls left Jimny in charge of cooking it! Next was the Kingfisher Veterinary Quiz; one of our teams came joint first with Ilminster.
At the end of November our elite team of brains (Chris B, Naomi, Jack, Phil, Brendon, Ann and Bryan) entered the Brainstrust Competitions held at Glastonbury. Unfortunately we weren't quite as good as we thought we were, our Senior Team coming 4th did really well but not as well as our Intermediate Team who managed to win. We are not sure how, probably due to the lack of competition.
Our hockey team have done exceptionally well winning ALL of our matches that we have played so far!
In October Naomi (Chairman) went to Birmingham Stockjudging; she did really well coming 2nd in Somerset, we are all very proud of her!
We have done a huge amount of fundraising, particularly over the Christmas period raising over £2000 for our charities, we have been carol singing and presented a cheque for £450 to Wessex House in Somerton. Our singing was much appreciated everywhere we went, especially Brendon's, we think he could make the 4th member of The Choirboys! This year, thanks to Pete, Chris and Jonny we have been out on our new Christmas Cart around local villages raising money for local charities.
All of our members have enjoyed the socials held by other clubs and counties - one person in particular has! Tris the party tart! What else can we say! This year we are all looking forward to the many events and hope everyone has a good year.
In March we will be doing the pantomime, which should be very interesting!!
COUNTY PANTOMIME & MEMBER OF YEAR FINALS
(March 2006)
Langport YFC came 2nd in the Pantomime Competition with the help of Snow White, who we never knew was a Chav! Ann Coombes won Best Actress for her flawless portrayal of one of Britain's finest chavs!
Also on the same day the Senior Member of the Year Competition was held. Naomi Pickford (Langport YFC) won the Senior Member of the Year County Round.
Both competitions were fiercely battled out and every member should feel very proud. You are a credit to the Federation and your clubs. WELL DONE to you all!
