A lively bunch - we always do a lot for charity; such as a Tractor Pull to the South-West Area Activities Weekend last March and in June we did a sponsored "Bounceathon" on a Bouncy Castle!! We are part of Sedgemoor Group. 2009 Year Report On the 8th of September 2008, when I said “yes” to being Chairman I knew I was going to be in for a busy year, but nothing prepared me for the mammoth year ahead! This was Bridgwater YFC’s 75th year and we had chosen BIBIC (British Institute for Brain Injured Children)as our charity for the year, with our aim to raise £5000. This meant we had to do some serious fundraising and with nine different fundraising events throughout the year we were going to be very busy! Any way the year began with our first night out celebrating Hannah’s 18th birthday and a visit to The Shrubbery; a great night was had by all with Hannah not remembering much of it and managing to break one of her presents without ever using it, those who were there will know what I mean! Next came the Harvest Supper which was very well attended with our performance of “Ello Ello Little Vicar” going down well; despite the audience being scarred for life after seeing Sully in a very tight PVC costume! We began our fundraising for BIBIC with a mouse-race which was also our first attempt at running our own bar, which went very smoothly compared to the handling of the mice! George Barrow got bitten and then one of the mice got squashed in the trap and unfortunately died. December was now upon us and we had begun at last to practice for our panto; “Aladdin”. December also meant it was time to go carol singing. We were, as usual, paid to stop singing. I think we managed to get round to everyone, in fact due to a miscommunication the two separate groups ended up visiting one person twice however they donated money to both groups so the journey wasn’t completely wasted! After Christmas we were in full swing with both panto practices and building and painting the scenery; every spare hour we had we were busy! Then came the day of reckoning, everybody gave it their all and we only missed coming first by one point. March saw our annual Dinner and Dance which for the first time ever was a sell-out, the do was enjoyed by all, with everyone bursting with laughter at our guest speaker, Rupert Cox’s speech. We were all also pleasantly surprised by Mr T’s +1 who he says is just a good friend. Our next big adventure was our mammoth tractor pull to Weston, which was a proper laugh despite the hard work (our muscles ached for days afterwards!). Our adventure received lots of media attention with appearing on TV, in the paper and on the radio, with Hannah giving hourly updates on BBC Somerset. At the rally, the Friday evening was used up by stock judging or more to the point getting to the stock judging and getting back again, on the way back George Pemberton and Tom Salvidge decided to follow me and my SAT nav back to the farm, it was a much more direct journey back… however the track was barely big enough to fit a mini down it let alone my van and Tom’s 4x4; eventually we arrived back just in time for last orders at the bar! The Saturday continued to be an eventful day, yet again we managed to stuff more members in to the “How many in a...” than any other club! We all had a great time and would like to congratulate the Rally Committee for a great weekend. Our next fundraising venture was with our manure deliveries which despite Matt burying a campervan was a success! To add to the funds for BIBIC we also held two Bingo’s and attended both Blackmore Farm and Brymore School’s Open Days. At Brymore’s Open Day we managed to fill Hannah’s car with balloons after which we were all completely out of puff and didn’t have much energy for the rest of the day but we managed to see the day out and Hannah finally managed to get into her car again! The final event of my year as Chairman was our Auction of Promises, in which we had just about everything up for auction including a car wash by Matt and Sully, (in their Speedo’s) this was bought on the condition that they washed his Truck outside the new cattle market! The evening raised £2500 and therefore took us to our target of £5000! All in all I have had an excellent year, and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making it run so smoothly and making the year so enjoyable.About Us
