2009 Year Report
As it was Ridian’s last year, he took over the post of Chairman at this year’s AGM. He proceeded to lead the way into our first event, the club Sheep Show. It was a good day, with Robin Elston becoming the star of the show. Next was our club camping trip, where Robin Elston was amazed that somebody could be sick whilst asleep! Everyone was fairly impressed that Tom Burge managed to get an entire 3 – piece suite into the middle of a field! Our next event was the club field day, which was held at Allercott Farm by kind permission of the Willford family. There were a lot of handicraft entries and some brilliant games in the afternoon organised by Ridian. Jess Evans won the Junior Points Cup, Sally Taylor won the Senior Points Cup and she also won the Overall Points Cup. Our club leader, Mr Tom Burge, had a little accident on the way home from Somerset County Ball, only just making it to the window in time. Once he felt better, he then decided to annoy everyone else with his constant banter, convinced that if he was awake, everyone else should be too!!!At the Christmas Fatstock Show, Sophie Stevens came 1st in the YFC competition, and then went on to win Reserve Champion out of the whole show. We did our usual carol singing evenings again this year, raising £300 for the Devon Air Ambulance, as you can never be sure when you might need them!At the hedging competition, we seemed to win everything! Oliver Hill came 1st in the Junior competition, Adam Hill was 2nd and Dan Matravers was 3rd. Ridian Willford was 1st in the Senior competition and Justin Atkins was 2nd. Ridian was impressed with West Group Ball, thinking it was just like the ‘old days’!! Dan Hopson became a human vase for the night!!! Cutcombe had a brilliant day at the West Group Rally; Tim and Rob managed to not only look after the youngest members and cook lunch, but also had a go at the ‘one man and his dog competition’, which proved rather entertaining! Cutcombe also came 3rd overall, which we were really pleased about! Once again Cutcombe’s brilliant Fencing team consisting of Ridian, Rob and Justin did us proud at the County Rally, coming 1st! Tim Stenner came 2nd in the Shearing competition and we had a few more 2nd’s and 3rd’s throughout the day. Our 2nd camping trip, proved just as popular as the first one. Dan Hopson took a slight detour, managing to make a 35min journey last a whole 2 hours!!! We played a good few games of rounders and had a decent fire and BBQ, despite the rain!! Our last event to date was “Allerefest”, this was held at Ridian’s farm, and everyone agreed it was an excellent night!! The theme was ‘animals’ and there were some absolutely brilliant costumes about that night!!! We have been on several trips this year, to try and keep the club together as a team, these included events such as cinema trips, club kayaking, bowling and rock climbing! Cutcombe would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. Good luck to those starting colleges and university this year, we hope you all have as much fun as we have had at young farmers this year!
