We are one of the larger clubs in the County now and are all getting involved with organising the County Rally with our Group next May. We enjoy sports, competitions and socialising.
We are part of Fosse Group!
2009 Year Report
After a very successful AGM with lots of new members filling the posts we were ready to start planning and enjoying the following year as a club. However a few weeks into the start of the year we had to re-elect our Vice-Chairman but that didn’t stop the club getting off to a good start! We had lots of activities planned for the year which included trips to the Bowling Alley, the Cinema and Ice-Skating. Some of the older members went down to Cheddar Mini Motors on a Wednesday evening which provided a night of amusement for all of us, especially watching the ‘first timers’ going round! As a club we have also been and had a go on the go-karts on a Tuesday evening, which was enjoyed by all members. All that we heard on the journey home was who had had the best lap time and comparing near crashes! The club has also attended a lot of social activities throughout Somerset, including a coach load of us going to the County Ball, Snow Ball and 3 Counties Ball with everyone looking fabulous! Having partied our way to lots of discos and barn dances from October to December, we helped bar profits by drinking our fair share of cider! This year South West Area was held in Weston Super Mare and was attended by a number of our older members. Our club stayed in a B&B down the road which was good as it was easy staggering distance from the evening parties! We had a relaxing weekend full of nearly non-stop drinking; it was a very memorable weekend. We got in the spirit of things on Saturday night by wearing our club shirts along with all the other clubs from the South West. Our Sports Secretary, Scott Beeching, has been busy organising many nights of sports including hockey, rounders, rugby, football and hiring out sports halls. We had a good game of rounders against Chew Valley YFC one evening. Our club has also organised a game of rounders against our local hunt followed by a BBQ afterwards. It was a very entertaining evening with lots of attempted cheating and we had nice weather for it! This summer our club joined up with Mendip Farmers Supporters and had a successful Raft Race. We were very lucky with the weather and had an afternoon full of thrills and spills. There were a few YFC teams entered along with some junior members. In the evening we held a disco, with music by our own Tom Vailes, and everyone really enjoyed themselves! This year we had a very successful Rally, we had entered every handicraft class! Every member did their bit to help Farrington do well in the rally. Jade Ford again did very well with her handicrafts and took away Farrington’s girls Most Points Cup for the second year running. Richard Dunn and Ben Brice came first in the Shooting and our members did well in the Horse Stockjudging. This year our members came back with lots of certificates and cups and it was a well enjoyed rally by all! Next year it is our Group’s turn to host the Rally so we have been busy this year with plenty of meetings. We have been along to a few sites and have chosen a potential venue so our club have been busy planning and fundraising for the rally, along with our Fosse Group. We would like to thank everyone who has helped make this year run as smoothly as it has and we hope next year will be as much fun and the club will continue to grow!
