We are a club who excels at having fun in competitions! We are reknowned for our dramatics in County, Area and National Drama & Entertainments Finals and also take part in the Somerset Carnivals. We are also very sociable and hold our famous "Boxing Day Boogie" every year. We are in Sedgemoor Group! 2009 Year Report There have been many memorable times this year for Highbridge YFC from Sammy’s vow to ‘strawpedo’ a whole bottle of wine (which he did!) to Linzi’s very BEAUTIFUL comment. Also the usual club fascination with Weston-Super-Mare on most Friday AND Saturday evenings! After a manic year of weddings last year all seems to have gone quiet on that front, so the club is looking for any takers-(Pete and Rachael?!) The year started in the normal way with the Harvest Supper which was extremely well attended and the entertainments highly polished as usual.....but still very funny. A very large parrot named Polly was definitely the star attraction of the evening!!!! Following on from Harvest supper was County Ball which was well attended, the club seemed to enjoy themselves despite the early finish! Christmas and carol singing came and went in a blur of food, alcohol and general health abuse and as usual we made the most of an excuse to do this to excess! The club raised nearly £500 for Turner’s Syndrome which was fantastic. Next was the infamous Boxing Day Boogie with a change of venue which seemed to go down really well with relatively little trouble and a great night was had by all, some fantastic fancy dress outfits with Kidz TV being the theme.....roll on next year! Snow ball was next on the agenda and was well attended by the entire club, although somehow Rob Stone managed to break his foot on a big inflatable toy, quite how we will never know!!!! South West Area was soon upon us with only a few members attending as most of them were off to St Anton skiing early the next day, but despite that some new inter-club relations were formed with Gloucester YFC! (Fran). The ski holiday was great with the vast majority being first time and having to learn, nevertheless after 3 days of ski school we somehow managed to get them down a red run after copious amounts of mulled wine and dancing on tables....... Not to mention Adam and Sammy both losing their wallets which made for a rather an expensive holiday for the pair of them! Despite this the holiday was a real success and I think may well become an annual feature in Highbridge’s calendar! Then on to the Dinner and Dance which was held at the Oaktree Arena, Highbridge (the first time it’s been held anywhere near Highbridge for a very long time!); another successful night with great food....although I think the Weston massive was still calling a few of our members even as late as midnight that night! Along came May with a few members attending the AGM at Blackpool and really enjoying themselves and then on to this years Rally. What an excellent day and night was had by all and a big congratulations to ALL of our winners..... (Linzi and Chloe!). I’m not entirely sure but I think Highbridge were actually out of the minus points for the second year running! The evening dance was great although we kept losing members to other clubs tents (Olly, Matt, Linzi, Fran etc....). Although the sensible people had a nice early night (Chloe and Adam)! Camping was great fun and we’re really looking forward to next year already. Apart from the usual YFC stuff we have been doing a few other things like disappearing off to Newquay for Fran's fourth 18th birthday celebration, the weather was fab and the club had a great time even if a little sunburnt! We are also off on a canal boat holiday in September which should be good. Also we happen to be losing three members as they are off travelling so we wish them the best of luck, but what we are all going to really notice is a lack of photos as Ting-Tong (Linzi) our resident photographer is one of the three on their travels. To finalise my report I would like to make a big thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us over this last year in particular Geoff Poole (the taxi driver) who Andy has kept in business over the last year ferrying him to and from Weston! We are hoping for a slightly busier year this coming year seeing as we have the drama competition, so lets get recruiting new members!About Us
