About Us
We as a club have all recently been heavily involved with the 2009 County Rally, which was held in our Group.
We enjoy socialising and competing, we are particularly good at sports, and every year hold our famous "Bonds & Bunnies" Easter Disco!
We are in Wessex Group!
Year Report
2009 Year Report
by Georgina CarterOnce again this has been a very busy year for the club; attending many sports events, balls and disco’s across the county and in the surrounding ones as well.
After the AGM we got straight into it by starting the year off with our “Toga Party”; a very successful evening and well done to everyone who helped out and supported us.
Next it was time to start concentrating on our carnival entry and start thinking about fundraising ideas for the year.
Into October and we had lots of birthdays to celebrate so were busy out and about getting to everything we could.
Georgina and Donna were also part of the winning Wessex team for the County Netball and some of our boys had fun at the Football.
October saw Sam leaving us for a year, we were very sad to see him go, especially as he is a very good DJ when we need one!!!
November saw the beginning of Ilminster helping with the fundraising for the rally; a very successful auction of promises in The Shrubbery rose over £2000 and helped to bring the group closer together. A good group from Ilminster took a trip up to Cheltenham to see Donna and Georgina at university and have a fun day at the races!
Next was County Ball and a bus full (plus a couple of cars) headed up to Rookery Manor for a very fantastic evening. Well done to Hannah Dyer and her team for such a great night…..but if you see Donna about do not ask her about the lane towards the Manor and how many punctures its possible to get from one pot hole!!!
December was soon upon on us and it was time to head on down to Exeter University and join Devon at their County Ball. Next was a couple of evenings carol singing to help out with fundraising, just before Christmas our meal where the “Secret Santa” presents were handed out and a few people got surprises and probably didn’t show their presents to their parents!! December also saw us celebrating Geoff’s birthday and with Livvy turning 21, in true Ilminster style we all had a very good evening at her “Black and White” party. To follow on the tradition we headed up to the Boxing Day Boogie, dressed up and ready to do just that!!
The New Year was upon on us and we got out and about to as much as we could in between all the meetings that were now occurring due to the rally. Ryan did the club proud with representing Ilminster at Group Member of the Year and going through to the County Final. Snow Ball was again well attended and luckily the hangovers had gone by the Sunday so we could take part in the Hockey and Rugby.
With a quiet February, next on the calendar was SWA and a record number of us headed up to Weston for what turned out to be an action packed weekend with many of our boys sporting outfits that they seemed a bit too comfortable wearing! A big well done to Ryan who played in the county Rugby team and will be joining the rest of them at the National Final. Good luck to you all!!
April saw the return of our “Bond and Bunnies” disco and this year seemed to be the best yet! Thank you to everyone who came and supported us and made the night memorable. The following weekend we took a bus up to Bristol for a fantastic Three Counties Ball where we all enjoyed dancing the night away to “The Wurzels”. To end the month off we attended the pre-rally dance; a last way of making money for the rally that was held in Yeovil.
Nationals next upon us saw Joy and Georgina joining members from all over the country enjoying what turned out to be a fun filled weekend representing Somerset….and for a couple of hours, Devon!!!
We then had a very busy week leading up to what was probably the biggest weekend in the Ilminster calendar this year, and a HUGE well done must go to everyone who helped out with the rally and helped to make the weekend such a great success; there are too many of you to list!!
This year also saw a record number of entries from all the members and Ilminster did the best they ever had. Although we didn’t have to steward at the Bath and West Show many of our members went up to look at the YFC tent and a big well done must go to Clare and her team for the fantastic things that were on offer for everyone to see.
Into June and Ellie, Becky and Georgina headed up to the SWA competitions day to support fellow Somerset members competing.
Now with the barn disco season upon us we tried to get around to as many clubs and do’s as possible and hopefully will be visiting more next year!!!
The summer weather made rounders a bit difficult this year but we tried our hardest to play as much as we could. Next was Axminster ball and with two buses heading across the border we sure showed those Devonians how to party!!
Soon it was time to get the tools and wood out to start building our raft for the up and coming races. Thank you to Ryan and Rory for the use of their yard and letting us spend many hours being noisy and not really doing much work!!
Ilminster held a “Uniforms” summer disco at The Shrubbery and not being funny but I think it would be good to see the look of bosses everywhere if everyone turned up to work in those outfits!!
Some girls kept their uniforms on for the Lowland Games the next day and our mixed raft did very well but unfortunately Emily, Becky and Kate spent more time swimming than rowing, but it did provide entertainment for everyone else!!
To follow suit from the last couple of years we finished the year off with our Annual Sponsored Bike Ride around local villages to raise funds for our chosen charity this year; Devon Air Ambulance. To try something new we also held a successful car treasure as a way of ending the year.
A huge well done must go to everyone who has kept Ilminster going this year and put in the effort when it’s been required.
Thank you to all the clubs who have supported our events and we hope to see you all next year. Good luck to everyone taking on new roles next year and I hope to see you out and about around the county!
