About Us

Hello we are Quantock Vale, recently reformed and eagerly looking forward to taking part in all things YFC!

Year Report

2011 Year Report

Quantock Vale YFC

Quantock Vale was newly reformed in September 2010 when ex-members of the previous club decided they wanted to restart, giving us kids the young farmer experience they had, and I feel it's safe to say, 'mission accomplished'. We held our AGM and filled the roles with young new-comers, fully throwing ourselves into the deep end, and taking the rest of the year in our stride.

Although inexperienced, with the dedicated help of Club Leaders, advisory members, mentors and parents, we began organising the year’s events. As all of our members were so young, we definitely got to have some fun, with ice skating trips and themed meetings. Halloween was a good night, although we did have to clean up the mess we made, after pumpkin carving and apple bobbing with water, jelly and flour… need i say any more? We also had speakers. From undertakers to firemen, both including demonstrations, such as Josh being lifted on a gurney, our meetings throughout the year were definitely eventful to say the least!

However, with money to raise, it's not all fun and games… or is it? We started with a car wash where it would seem the members got wetter than the cars! After that we stuck to indoor fundraising, and started holding bingos. With lots of young members on board, and happy to help with raffles and refreshments, we couldn't go wrong, and as the first was such a success for us, we had a few more for Easter and other events. We chose a charity to support in, '40 Commando', as we all agreed it was a greatly worthy cause... although maybe for different reasons from some of the female members.. Something about attractive young soldiers?

Anyway! We tried our luck at some sports, starting with Dodgeball where our team qualified to go through to South West Area… even if there were no other teams! After that we moved onto Rounder’s and we took a team up to Wincanton in a mini-bus, except, after the hour drive there, no other teams showed up, so we played a short game of 5-a-side and made it into a trip to McDonalds instead. With some expert parking of the mini bus by Tanya, it turned out to be an amazing day trip with what felt like a big family.

As a new club, we were a bit intimidated by other clubs, because we were new, small, and generally very young, but we had nothing to be scared about. We held a rounder’s match against Bridgwater YFC, and although half our team couldn't make it, Bridgwater were happy to help us out, and we ended up playing until it was almost dark.

Due to such a supportive group of adults encouraging us to get involved, we entered a team into the Junior Reading Competition, and our team, along with Polden Hills, ended up being sent off to South West Area! As well as this, they read to HRH at the Bath and West Show. We are also proud to say that one of our members Molly Weaver placed first. To then continue our winning streak, we won the sign making competition at the Rally, so those hours painting animals with instruments paid of. Woohoo! Then to top it off we won the Junior Cup, not bad for our first year on the job. Bring on next year!
