Year Report

2009 Year Report

We have had a successful year, doing a wide range of events and competitions. For our new Members week in October; we went to Hollywood Bowl in Taunton, with a turnout of 30 people, including a few new members!  We entered both a Junior and Senior team for Public Speaking; the Senior team came 2nd whilst the Junior team walked away with 1st and Katherine Bigwood won the Junior Member of the Year County Final.  The time came around again for the annual Carol singing, with a total of three nights, and two routes each night, we managed to raise £1000 splitting it evenly between Dorset and Somerset Air ambulance and C.L.O.W.N.S;  a Family support Service for West Somerset. At the end of February, Williton YFC won the Group final of pantomime performing ‘Aladdin’ at Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe. We then carried on the winning streak through to the County final - Amy Winter received “Best Actress” and Jos Bennett was awarded “Best Actor” for ‘Wishee Washee’; with a unforgettable performance. No-one can turn a Washing Machine on like him! Finally in March we performed once again at South West Area, on behalf of Somerset and sadly here the journey ended for us!  Most of our members went to the County Rally, all doing handicrafts and getting stuck into different competitions, with several individual first places; we were pleased with the outcome of being placed second overall! At the end of May, Williton YFC held a Sheep Shearing Competition for West Group, there was certainly a good standard of shearing taking place.  In June we managed to do some fundraising, holding a successful Car Boot Sale at Ge-Mare in Holford, unfortunately this was a once off due to the lack of good weather!   Our yearly party in the field was organised again for August, giving the club a chance to get together once more before the YFC year came to an end!  Williton YFC are looking forward to their forthcoming Harvest Supper in October and celebrating 65 years of our Club. Lastly I’d like to thank all of the members who have helped this year and made the year a success, and ‘Good Luck’ for the coming year especially to people taking on new roles within the Club.
