Year Report

2009 Year Report

By Samantha Clark & Clare Dean Let me just start by saying that wow… Wrington you are 79 years old this year and we are still going strong as a Club despite only having 5/6 members.

Well…what can I say about our Club this year! We have started with real enthusiasm with some new members. We would like to welcome Victoria Look, Henry and Rebecca Letts to our Club.

We started this year with some sports with various clubs and against our Advisory and despite only four of our members turning up we still had a great time.

We would also like to welcome Deano back to our Club after a spell in Australia. Welcome back!!!!!!!! Whilst out in Australia Deano met up with two old Wrington members Phil & Kate MacDonald.

In November the club held it’s Annual Dinner Dance at Batch Country Hotel, for an evening of laughter and really yummy food! George Trippick (Wells & Glastonbury YFC) kindly acted as our auctioneer, instead of a raffle, and we raised £1000!! The Auction was great fun for all, whether you understood the concept or not! Anna paid £50 for a photo, as she didn’t realise how the auction worked and even bid against herself several times! Oh the red wine was flowing that night!! Thanks to all who donated and to all who supported and in particular a huge thanks to Will and Kate Clark for organising the games throughout the evening which amused everyone! Many thanks!

November was also the time of the carnival and the club enjoyed a visit to Weston to get incredibly wet and see the floats going past! We managed to giggle despite the freezing cold and Anna Lee lit up the evening for us in her flashing bunny ears!!

We joined our fellow neighbours and other Clubs for a trip to North Somerset Magistrates Court and which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Back in February the Wrington girls lent their support to the Pantomime entries in the County Final, always a good day out, and all giggled a lot at Anna’s new fiancé enjoying the chance to let-out his feminine side! Poor old Holly Salmon looked bored to tears on her first YFC outing, how many panto’s can you see in one day and Clare was back in a big way – a surprise for all who expected her to still be thousands of miles away!

Friday 20th March not only saw one of our Club members turn 25 (Sam) but also probably saw the most exciting day of the year for our over 18 members as we headed down the A38 for a brief journey to Weston-super-Mare. Friday night saw us in Vision nightclub with the theme of “Haymakers and Hookers” and then Saturday night which was also at Vision nightclub; the theme for this night was Club shirts. Well there is a story behind our Policemen themed ones but for more information ask Deano! Clare enjoyed playing on the beach and discovering the finer points of Dolphin Square car park! It was all good fun until she was face-to-face with a policeman!!

Anna was working for the weekend but let her hair down on the Saturday night and contrary to popular belief she was sober on the Saturday…yes she really does just behave like that normally! No alcohol needed!!

Sadly our younger members couldn’t enjoy the weekend, but they can look forward to it in years to come! The weekend was enjoyed by all our members and thanks to all for organising it.

The Rally was the next big Club event which was filled with lots of hilarious and exciting events and also some very wet events to. Let me just say don’t forget to bring a spare change of clothes as myself (Sam) and Ben needed them after getting 4th place in “Sort your leak out” and people aiming plumbing pipes at me – that was not fair, we also tried ‘there’s a hole in me bucket’ this was a wet one too!

Next came the “one man and his dog” competition, don’t fall in next time Henry! Victoria, well done for navigating him! Well done you two! Henry, the dog’s mask really suited you!

Deano was very hungry and decided she couldn’t hang on so after a quick trip to the handicraft shed to steal Anna’s gingerbread house she was content! After all that house you were eating didn’t stand any chance at all, no wonder you felt sick!!

Well done to all our Club members for entering various competitions and especially well done to Henry, Rebecca, Ben, Victoria and Anna for winning Certificates. Well done also to our little club, who came 4th in the Under 30 Members Cup! Fantastic result and just goes to show we may be tiny but we’re tough!!

Wrington tried to practice some stock judging of dairy cows and a few of our members turned up to try and have a go! I would like to thank Sally and Ben Letts for arranging it. Ben and Henry have showed great enthusiasm this year and it is great to have some really excited junior members.

Later in the year we held a car wash at Alvis Farm shop in aid of “Lights for Life” our chosen charity for the year, this was a good event enjoyed by all…even though we did choose to wash the cars and tractors in the rain but never mind we were going to get wet anyway!!!!

Let’s see if we can keep this up and roll on our 80th Birthday with a very special Guest Speaker and a huge party for the oldest Club in the County!

NEWS FLASH – Those of you who don’t know, Wrington YFC have a very special announcement to make! We would like to congratulate Anna Francis (Wrington) and Andrew Creed (Wells & Glastonbury) on their engagement on Valentines Day, romantic Andrew whisked Anna off to Clevedon Pier and got down on one knee! We all look forward to the wedding invites and the wonderful Wedding in December and we wish you all the best for the future.

She ensures us she will always remain a Wrington-ite and not move to Wells & G!! Good girl!

I would like to thank all of the Club members for making this a very special year and hope we have many more. WELL DONE WRINGTON!!!

I would also like to thank all the Clubs for their support over the coming months
