Wedmore YFC Yearbook Report 2005

Rachael Talbot - Secretary

Wedmore YFC have had a great year, it all started off with the annual Harvest Supper. This year we tried out Mouse Racing for entertainment. This proved to be a great success. It was very well supported, which goes to show the club is ever increasing in size.

The following night was the Bonfire and Fireworks Display, another very successful function, one thing that does stick in my mind was when Matt Beason decided to put his head a little too close to the BBQ just as we were lighting the gas, as well as burning all the grass underneath the BBQ Matt lost both his eyebrows, I can still smell burning hair now!!!!

As Christmas approached as a club we did more and more, what with County Ball, numerous discos and County Competitions, we had to squeeze in time for a Junior Disco, a Christmas Disco, Christmas Bingo and a lovely Christmas meal at Brent House.

We did attempt to go carol singing but it was probably more like carol wining, screaming and screeching rather than singing. I am sure the residents of Wedmore dread us coming round and pay us to go away!!!!

The new year started with drama practices, I am sure all the members who took part really enjoyed doing the drama and Wedmore came a well deserved 3rd place at the County Final.

The club once again held a very successful Show & Show Dinner and Dance, moving with the times we decided to move it from a Friday to a Saturday.

This proved to be a good idea, with more support from local villagers and parents not having to work on a Friday. An excellent turn-out of cattle, sheep and pigs were on show as usual and there was outstanding quality with the handicraft competitions entered by many members.

The club has had many informative and interesting talks and visits this year from a fire station visit to Laser Quest and a farm walk at Eric Puddy's at Mark, just to name a few. This was due to our fantastic programme secretary (Junior member) Ben Willcox.

The Rally Cup of 2005 should have come home with Wedmore! Due to the points system we were denied this. However we, as a club, are proud of what we achieved and with a majority of our club still being Junior members, 2nd place is still a credit to all our members.

As Secretary of Wedmore YFC 2004 - 2005 I wish next year's committee the best of luck and thank all the committee members for making this year an excellent one for Wedmore.

DIDN'T THEY DO WELL!!!! (August 2005)

Somerset YFC quite literally shone (unlike the sun!) at the Royal Show (3-6 July) in Warwickshire when Jo Avery (Weston & Banwell YFC) and Clare Tucker (Wedmore YFC) were thrilled to beat the opposition to come a fantastic first place in the Live Craft Demonstration - a real achievement and they worked really hard for it so please congratulate them when you next see them!

To qualify to go to the Show was a real achievement in itself but to come in with such fantastic results is brilliant! Well done - we're really chuffed with you and thanks for doing such a good job of representing Somerset!

To show our pride we've let you see our little stars below:

CONGRATULATIONS CLARE! (May 2006)

Well done to Clare Tucker (Wedmore YFC) who very successfully completed the London Marathon on Sunday 23rd April. A fairly huge challenge so well done for doing it and still managing to smile!! We're all chuffed for you!
